A typical day

Don’t hesitate to look over our fallow deer page.

We can combine deer stalking with pigeon shooting on the same day, depending on seasonality and daylight hours, if requested.

On the day, the RDV is made either at the accommodation or directly on the grounds, either on or before first light. Your guide will give a safety briefing and any advice from experiences as well as etiquette and best practices.

A shooting competency test on to a target emulating real shooting situations may be carried out for novices prior to your booking. This can allow you to familiarise yourself with the estate rifle and help us gauge what scenarios to go for on the day.

Once we are ready to go, with the wind in the right direction and the plan in mind, your guide will keep a look out and scout for any animal movements as we stealthily advance. When a deer of appropriate description presents itself, you will be guided and advised to a position in which you can safely take the shot, whether that be standing and off of shooting stick, in a high seat from a hide or laying prone on the ground.

You must reload the rifle without delay and observe the situation until it becomes clear. Your guide will advise on what to do from there onward.

Not everyone has access to land on which to manage deer and some cannot make the consistant time commitments involved. Others just like a change in scenery and quarry, or occasional recreational deer stalking. This is where your sporting guide can help both land owners and sporting clients. We take time to constantly reevaluate our populations, and identify individuals as new blood, breeders, prime, suitable cull animals and trophy heads. We also reevaluate their impact on the surrounding habitats to make sure that there presence does not become detrimental for other species. The land owners are happy to have someone take responsibility in a sustainable way, our clients are happy with well organised outings and we are happy to help.

  • Fallow: please enquire for details.

Each outing usually lasts between 2 and 3 hours, depending on the objective, cull plan and success. The carcasses are taken to a chilled facility, and you are free to visit the area or catch up on some sleep for a few hours. The evening RDV will be set before you go.

The evening outings are usually similar to the morning’s, but we can sometimes take you to another property, use a different method or for an alternative quarry. For best results we aim to get going two to three hours before the daylight is gone.

We can offer mixed outings on different species, allowing the most out of your sporting venture with us.

CARCASSES :

Venison carcasses may be bought by the clients and a basic butchery service may be available.
